In a brazen daylight heist at Central Plaza Ladprao, five armed robbers made off with 3.4 million baht ($100,000) during a failed cryptocurrency transaction. The victims had pooled funds for an in-person deal that turned violent, echoing a similar November 2024 incident in Phuket where a Ukrainian national was robbed during a crypto exchange.

Authorities are pursuing leads on the getaway vehicle—a stolen Honda—but face challenges as the cash-based nature of the crime leaves no blockchain trail. Thailand's crypto-related crimes continue evolving, with criminals now targeting fiat exchanges during peer-to-peer transactions rather than exploiting digital vulnerabilities directly.
